Variables
-
Dosage – How much coffee you use (grams), which affects strength.
-
Grind size – Fine to medium; finer grinds extract faster but can increase bitterness.
-
Water temperature – Typically 80–96 °C; hotter water extracts faster and more fully.
-
Water volume – Determines coffee-to-water ratio and final strength.
-
Brew time / immersion time – How long the coffee sits in water before pressing; longer steep increases extraction.
-
Pressure / pressing speed – Slower pressing extracts more evenly; faster pressing can under-extract.
-
Inverted vs standard method – Affects immersion time and clarity of the cup.
-
Stirring / agitation – Enhances extraction and can influence strength and clarity.
Our Guide
Dosage: 15–18 g coffee (medium-fine grind)
Water: 200 ml hot water (80–96 °C)
Grind: Medium Fine
Ratio: 1:12 - 13
Work Flow
-
Place a paper filter in the cap and rinse with hot water to remove any paper taste.
-
Attach the filter cap to the chamber and place it over your cup.
-
Put the ground coffee into the chamber.
-
Pour hot water over the grounds up to the desired level (typically 200 ml).
-
Gently stir for 10 - 15 seconds to ensure even saturation.
-
Let the coffee steep for 1 - 2 minutes (adjust for desired strength).
-
Insert the plunger and press down slowly, taking 20 - 30 seconds, until all liquid is extracted.
-
Remove the AeroPress, discard grounds, and enjoy your smooth, clean cup of coffee.
Adjust the coffee dose, water volume, and steep time to control strength and flavor. Pressing slowly produces a fuller-bodied, more extracted cup, while faster pressing results in a lighter brew. For even more control over steep time and immersion, try the inverted method.
